Driving licence from 17
Accompanied driving – start early, arrive safely
Under the trial scheme, a class B licence can already be issued from the 17th birthday.
You can apply from 16½. Theory test from 16¾, practical test one month before the 17th birthday.
Rules for accompanied driving
Named in the certificate
The companion must be named on the exam certificate. Several companions are possible.
Minimum age 30
Companions must be at least 30 years old.
Licence for 5 years
Companions must have held class B for at least 5 years.
Max. 1 point
Companions may have at most 1 point in the traffic register.
Germany only
Until 18 the entitlement is valid only inside Germany.

For the driver
- ID card or passport
- Biometric photo
- Vision test (not older than 2 years)
- First-aid course certificate
For the companion
- Annex for accompanied driving from 17
- Personal details and signature
- Copy of ID
- Copy of driving licence
