What you need before theory and driving lessons
Before you start, you submit a driver’s licence application to the licensing authority. You need a current passport photo, a vision test and proof of a first-aid course.
We tell you exactly what to bring, help you fill in the form, and advise which licence class fits you – including conversion of a foreign licence.
Checklist
- Biometric passport photo
- Vision test (not older than 2 years)
- First-aid course certificate
- ID or passport plus registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung)
- About €50 in fees at the Bürgeramt
- Foreign licence + translation if you are converting
